Looking to buy a hvlp spray gun and think I'm going to get a sharp fx3000. I am going to be spraying the frame and body. What size tip would I need for paint and primer. Want to use this gun for both. They offer 1.3, 1.4, 1.5 and 1.8? I'm going to be doing an epoxy primer and a single stage paint. Any help? Thanks guys

 

I have used a 1.5 for what you are using. Worst case, you may have to do a little more color sanding and buffing.

 

The perfect answer would be two tips. I prefer 1.8 for laying primer as it does a smoother job than 1.5. For color it could be a 1.3 although a 1.5 can be better depending on the paint. So I have 1.3, 1.5, 1.8 and 2.2.

 

I ended up buying a straight line spraying kit from my paint dealer. I sprayed Rust Shield paint on my frame and used a1.8 tip. I did alright but the paint didnt atomize very well and didnt lay as flat as I wanted and kind of spattered. Not a big deal since it was on a frame.
