Anyone tried the Banks SpeedBrake?

Met a guy who had the Banks SpeedBrake with the IQ gauges in his Duramax, he loved the braking power pulling his 5er..
I see they make it for the Ford 6.0 engine and was wondering if anyone has tried it and how it performed? It sounds like it would be really nice to have more braking power going down the steep grades and saving the foot brakes for emergency stops..

I haven't tried it, but with tow/haul mode on and no exhaust brake mods, my truck will easily stay below 55 on big grades without using the brakes. However, if I go much above that, it will shift to the next gear and then it doesn't maintain speed nearly as well. This is with a big 5th wheel and combined weight of 20k to 23k pounds.

I am at 21K myself and the tow haul does ok but on the mtn. passes around here I still use my foot brake often to run 50 mph down the long grades, and some of the passes on the Idaho/Montana border have switch backs which require 25 mph.Thats a lot of braking to bring the rig down to that from 45 or 50 mph.
I am just looking at improved options that would be beneficial for those long grades...

I just installed it a few weeks ago, I am at 26,000 gcw.....I have not taken any mountain passes yet, but on flat ground it is very aggressive, way more than the factory tow/haul. You can adjust it to maintain a certain speed down hill, or it has a high, med and low setting for when you either select to apply when pressing the brake peddle or apply when you let off the throttle. I am headed to South Dakota next week from So, California so I will have many mountain passes to try it on.

Well, I just returned from my trip to South Dakota, I pulled my 5er 3200 miles through 8 states and not sure how many Mountain passes I went up and down. I am really pleased with this unit! I never touched my brake pedal going down some long 6% grades, it worked just as promised. BUT to my surprise I got much more out of it than I expected, and that is the part of monitoring my EGT's, coolant, oil and tranny temps going uphill! I learned that going uphill pulling hard if you back off the throttle just a bit, you don't loose much power or speed but your EGT's stay about 200 deg cooler and my coolant and oil temps stayed about 20 deg cooler. My first big hill was Cajon Pass on I-15 outside San Bernardino Ca. As I always do, I put the pedal to the metal!!! About halfway up the pass my Banks IQ started making all kinds of noise while my EGT's and Coolant temps reached high levels, I looked to my dash gauges only to see my coolant level about 3/4 up which would normally go un-noticed. This was a learning experience and I changed my driving habits the remainder of the trip. I believe that I would have eventually caused engine damage if I would have not had the Banks IQ to alert me.

Glad it helped you out..........

You are not affiliated with Banks in anyway are you?

Because this sounds like a infommercial!

Disclaimer: The above was said with much sarcasm and tongue in cheek!
