Loud clunk noise when shifted from p to d

I just started gettin this loud clunk noise whenever I shift my 96 from park to drive. It doesn't make the noise when shifting from any other gear (ex. Drive to park) only from park to drive. It's a 96 f150 with the 5.0 and has an automatic transmission. If anyone has any idea or advice please let me know if it's serious or not cause as of now all that seems to be wrong is just the clunk noise

Check the drive shaft u-joints. Never assume they are good by sight, you have to check for signs of movement between the bearing caps and body.

Start with the u-joints first. Then you can move onto the driveshaft slip joint then the rear axle pinion lash.

are you parked on a hill? always use your parking brake with an auto, the parking element doesn't like load on it and will clunk when exiting park if it sees load.

also, is your idle normal? high idle = clunk.

otherwise, as rla said, check for slop.

Also check for a loose or broken trans or engine mount.
