4 Gauge Pods....Who's Got Em'?

I'm undecided about ordering a 3 or 4 gauge pod. My last 7.3 had a 3 gauge pod and as far as seeing out the windshield, it wasn't too bad. Sometimes if I was approaching a sharp bend, I would have to peak my head around the gauges to see what was ahead.

I'm wondering if the 4 gauge pod might have a really obstructed view. I'm getting the usual EGT, trans temp, and boost gauges, but would definitely like to have a fuel pressure gauge as well.

So who's running 4 gauge pods? How do you like them? Is it hard to see?

I got my 4 gage pod from Riffraff. I personally don't like it. I almost ran over a little car once because of the blind spot it causes. I also have tinted vent visors so that exaggerates the issue for me. Also I cannot fold my sunvisor down properly. It is a quality product but I am going to a 3 gage pod if I ever get the time and money.

The sun visor is an issue however a minor one. As far as peeking around the gauges, it is a habit I have anyway being tall, everything is always in the wrong place. I always have to lean forward and down to look under the rear view mirror in just about any vehicle as is is right in my line of vision. The four gauge pod is great and I wouldn't give it up, just make it a habit to always lean forward a bit and check behind them. Heck even a normal pillar can block a person in a crosswalk from view, just have to be careful. It's nice to have the gauges right in your face so you don't have to take your eyes off the road to check them, especially that top one.

Four pod is not any different than a 3 for seeing g around cause the last gauge is high. The only issue is folding.g the visor down but it is still possible mine had a natural fold so I can bend it to put it down if I need to.

I currently have 3 in pillar and 1 on column.
The pillar pods do obstruct my field of vision... but not to the point of being a safety hazard.... minor annoyance at worst.

A Brother sold his rig.. and sold me some glow shifts.
Now i need to figure out where to fit 7 gauges... +a few extra once the vegi system gets put in.

So you guys with umpti million gauges...
What works best once the cab starts looking like a cockpit?

The F650 dash should work for the extra gauges. You can fold the corner of the visor to go by the gauges very easy. That's what I do with my 4 gauge set up. If I had it to do over again, I would put the gauge set up by the rear view mirror with three or four extra gauges before the 4 gauge pillar.

I got the 4 and dont have a problem seeing around it. The visor is an issue, but as soon as I can get to my upholstery shop they will fix that problem.

I now wear progressive glasses so I have to lean my head back to see the top gauges. Although the Glow Shifts do reduce the lighting intensity when you have your headlights on it's not enough so they are too bright at night and distracting. If I had it to do over again I would mount them down low.

Chris, 8 gauges in mine. The 650 is really nice, especially for gauges you don't need to watch a lot, like exh. temp. I have the 3 oils there. hpo top left, lpo bottom left, and fuel pressure under the switch location. Trans is located indash above the shifter, and boost indash on the left. 3 on the pod are exh. top, and coolant then oil temp. My project for this winter is to make a mold for a 4 gauge dash similar to the new fords, above the steering wheel, and do away with the pillar pod. My son does custom fiberglass molds along with his car and cycle paint. I have blocks of foam for that purpose. I'm confident it will look like it came that way.
Jim.

Has anyone ever hit there head on the top 4th gauge entering there truck?

So from what I understand so far, folding down the sun visor can be an issue, unless it has a natural bend in it. Otherwise it seems like it's comparable to having a 3 gauge pod.

I know I don't want my cockpit looking like Joe's (CSIPSD) lol.

Have you ever banged your head on the A-post getting in the truck?

If your visor has the crease in it, there is no issue at all. If you have had a 3 gauge pod, within a few days the 4 gauge will be perfectly natural....

Both of my PSD's have the fold, no issue with visor. If there was a field of vision/blindspot issue, I got over it early - some 250k miles ago in the dually and over 100k in the X.

In the 6spd I have fuel press, EGT, boost and HPO press on pillar and had trans temp instead of HPO in the X. Both have F650 dashes and Aeroforce Scangauges down there.

IMHO, fuel pressure is a mandatory gauge. This is one parameter that PCM doesn't monitor, but is an excellent diagnostic tool.

This is where its at though, dunno why ya wanna hate on Joe!!
