could you special order a high boy in 1979? Number dummy?
A gentleman on another internet discussion forum has made the claim that you could special order a factory high boy for pretty much any year, and he states he saw a 1979 factory high boy complete with full highboy accouterments (divorced transfer case, narrow frame, narrow leaves, etc) that had factory documentation. Seems unlikely to me and I've certainly never heard of that before so I'm curious to see what the experts have to say.

Did you laugh in his face and block the rest of his posts he ever makes??? Chances are, that documentation is from a 79...but only because the DMV only cares about the VIN on the door, and doors change over the years...and the grille probably did too. My guess would be a 79 Body (cab at least) on a pre-77.5 chassis.

If memory serves correctly...Bronco highboys had the same production run, but you had to order on Wednesday.

Nuh-uh...I know a guy who knows a guy, who walked passed a homeless guy who knew of a neighborhood where a a lady's dog walker's boyfriend's, uncle's 3rd cousin twice removed, bought an 83 and was only the 42nd owner...all original with less than 1,000 miles on it.

I love when the owner gets all indignant about it. Or when someone feels compelled to start listing everything that makes a highboy a highboy. I really don't give a rats behind about spring width, divorced t-case, front cross member, etc etc...maybe they're trying to prove how smart they are...I dunno. I just very simply put it to them...it's an enthusiast term...encompassing all 250 4x4's from 67-77.5 (before serial number Y20,001). I really don't think anything about tcase, springs, frames, cross members needs to be mentioned. All means all, 67-77.5 means 67-77.5 and 250 4x4 means 250 4x4. If you have a 250 between those years...it's a highboy. If you don't have a 250...it's not a highboy.

Just for reference, there is one person there who believes if you can assemble a vehicle using all ford parts, you can call it a "factory" vehicle. ie, if I put a super camper special bed, a dana 60 king pin high pinion front axle, a narrow width rear 70 with 2.5" leafs and highboy blocks, and a 460 with 5 speed and transfer out of a later truck on a '78 F100 then I have a "factory" lifted F100 snowfighter super camper special high boy 4wd. or whatever. its just ridiculous.
