Question Help - Alternator Wiring Harness

So I was changing the belt on my truck and discovered that the wiring harness going to the alternator was more or less melted. I haven't been able to find one to buy anywhere, but I found one for a mustang (same motor) that looked similar to build from. So far I'm not having any luck getting it right.

Does anyone know where I can buy a harness? Or can someone send me a photo of their harness or know where I can find a wiring digram that I can use to build one? My old one is so shot I can't tell what was running where.

The truck is a 1970 F100 with a 360.

Master Diagram

Here's a link to a 'Master Diagram' for your truck. Hope it helps.

Maybe it is time to do a 3G swap and update 40 year old technology? Might be cheaper and easier?

1965/72 alternators and voltage regulator exactly the same: F100/350/Mustang/Galaxie/LTD/Fairlane and etc.

Mustang alternator harnesses have been reproduced, but they don't always work on F100/350's.

1970/72 F100/350: There are two different alternator harnesses:

DOTZ-14305-S .. Use with oil/amp GAUGES / DOTZ-14305-X .. Use with oil/amp WARNING LIGHTS.

I'm gambling it's got gauges. I remember selling a lot more DOTZ14305S than x. As a matter of fact I remember selling U also.
If I am right Green Sales in Ohio has 3 of them. 1-800-543-4959.

Green Sales in Ohio has 3 = 800-543-4959.
Don't forget that when the 2nd digit of the prefix contains a zero, it can also be typed as the letter O.

Since most parts are typed into websites with the letter O and that's how we pronounced it, that's how I list the part number. But I always run it both ways.

D0TZ-14305-S = NOS PARTS LTD in Waxahachie TX has 1 = 972-937-2201.

Okay, so I read through the posts and am a little confused. Basically, if I want a new one, I just pick one of the donor vehicles off the list, say a (1993-99) Ford Taurus, Mercury Sable 3.0L and buy the alternator. Now I have this new G3 alternator I'm a bit confused on the wiring. It looks like from some of the posts it won't come with the wiring and a new harness would still have to be made or what it does come with may not work.

Can you clarify a little more how the wiring side of things would work. I only know enough about electrical to get myself in trouble.

It's easy to rebuild a wiring harness. I did my 72 F-100's back in the 80's in my dorm room on a Saturday afternoon without any electric training at all. Just replace wire for wire and add a fusible link, and wrap it up with tape.

agreed. for the alternator, we're talking about what...3-4 wires?
you don't need to buy a harness.

here's all the diagrams you'll need, whether you go 1G or 3G:
Fuel Injection Technical Library » Alternator Files

for what its worth, the 3G is a great swap, but if you're not electrically-minded, it may be best to just rewire what you've got.
