2008 5.4 idles Extremely rough after highway speeds knocking noise on driver side
I have a 2008 5.4L with 78,000 miles it hard to explain..
The truck would idle rough after driving about 30 miles to work when I came to a stop every once in a blue moon but I change to oil last week now it does it 2 or 3 times every time I go anywhere but it never does it on start up..
There are NO CODES.. took it to a friend of mines shop it actually did it as I was leaving.. they said it was the CAM postioning phasers????
Said it had to do with OIL pressure? They said I had to go to Ford to get it fixed it was like a 10hr job just to get everything off the motor to get to what mite be causing the problem?? Ford dealer said it was a $2000 job just to get to the parts that need to be replace parts not included????
Does has anyone ever has this issue and is it fix able with out taking it to the dealer?? I am no expert but I can work on most anything as long as I have an understanding of that I'm replacing and parts needed??

Ford has updated VCT solenoids for this problem. The part number is 8L3Z-6M280-B. Verify you have at least 20PSI oil pressure at hot idle. If you do, then the solenoids will prob take care of the noise. You already have the newest design phasers and leaking chain tensioners shouldn't cause enough oil pressure loss to cause the noise.
