Where is best place to buy new chrome for 62?

I have been selling off ammo, guns, tractors and truck projects to pay for my restore on the 62 4x4.... I just sold one of my FP-45 Liberators so I looking for new chrome.

Where is the best place to purchase chrome or where is the best place to re-chrome? If I re-chrome, is it cost effective (including shipping) and will it fill in the pits or will I end up with shiny pits?

What chrome pieces are you referring to? A lot of pieces are aluminum, some stainless and some pot metal. Would help knowing exactly what pieces you are wanting to chrome.

Looking for the standard emblems, FORD up front below hood, Lightening Bolt and F100 on the hood, Custom Cab for the doors. Looking at LMC they will run over $500 for new ones and they are out of one of these. Classic, Carpenter, and Rock does not have a complete selection.

Listed in DC's 1957/66 truck repro parts catalog (2011 paper edition):

C1TZ-16607-B 5 Stars with Gear & Lightning Bolt Hood Front Emblem: $55.00 / 1961/64 F100/1100 / 1965/66 F100/1100 I-6 only.

C1TZ-8125622-A Custom Cab Nameplate on doors: $25.00 each / 1961/66 F100/1100.

1961/62 R/L hood side emblems, AFAIK, have never been reproduced.

I don't see the FORD letters listed in DC's catalog, Ford sold these individually and they're the same: 1962/64 F100/1100.

LMC is a middle-man operation. Despite all the parts shown in their catalogs, don't carry much of anything, reproduce next to nothing. Use the J. Paul Getty method of making money.

When you send in your order, they use your money to buy the parts elsewhere, from other repro parts sellers and autoparts stores...marking up the prices in the process.

And...guess who pays the additional shipping charges LMC incurs buying the parts elsewhere?

btw: Keep a can of wax handy, cuz you're gonna need it. Made in China chrome parts are not copper plated like genuine Ford chrome was, the chrome is plated onto bare steel.

Before too long, the parts begin to pit unless waxed frequently.

Thanks ND,

The breakdown at LMC goes something like this:
Front FORD set $69.95
2 Custom Cab for doors $59.90 total
Hood front emblem $69.95
2 hood side emblems $199.90 total
2 Side mirrors $79.95 (chrome round with chrome supports) total
plus shipping was over $40

Of course, you are right, they do not have hood emblems for the 62, glad you pointed out they are not available, I had mistakenly selected the wrong ones for 63-64

I hate to buy from different vendors due to shipping but this is better than the old days when there was no internet sales or anyone to discuss where to get anything from.

Whiz over to dennis-carpenter.com .. look in 1957/66 catalog and compare prices. DC uses Ford part numbers, LMC does not.

What about Classic Auto Parts (formerly: Obsolete Ford Parts of Oklahoma City), have you looked in their catalog? OKC much closer to home than LMC (KS) & DC (NC).

I may have to just clean up what I have on the hood sides or hope for a NOS on evilbay.

NPD (National Parts Depot) has several parts warehouses, you'll probably wanna avoid the one located in Ventura CA

I have taken them to a local powder coat for a chrome coating at $15 each and look forward to getting them back to see if they will pass muster. Thanks for the offer, I will keep it in mind if I am not happy with the coating.
