Question swaping and efi engine to a carburated one

Ok so I was recently blessed with a 1992 F-250 with an amazing body and clean chassis but it has a bad rod knock and possibly a blown head gasket. It has the 5.8L EFI engine but. I can get a 1988 F-250 with a carburated 5.8L i believe both have the E4OD tranny but my question is will it be a simple transplant from one truck to the other?i.e. fuel pumps computers and everything. And the reason for the 1988 being a donor is because ther is no frame or body left and isn't road worthy anymore.Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Or could I pull the carburated engine and swap it to EFI?

Or would it be easier to change the carburated engine to EFI?

Jordan, Swap long blocks. Keep EFI. Also an 88 should be EFI from the factory. Either it's an 87 or someone swapped from EFI to a carb.

Your E4OD also requires the sensor inputs on the EFI engine to function. The trans needs to know what the engine is doing in order to work correctly since it's entirely electronically controlled.

Yes.. so unless you plan to install a different trans or have the fab skills to mount a TPS sensor on a carb this swap is more complicated than you think.

IMO the best route here would be to get the replacement motor and put it in with all the stock EFI parts, meaning don't use anything from the donor vehicle besides the bare longblock, when you get it strip the motor bare and put everything from the '92 on it.
