1956 f100 volare front suspension

I am looking into buying a 1956 f100 with volare front suspension and it is done right with the frame cut and everything, but is there a way to cut it out and weld the frame back up to put a mustang II style front end in and it still be safe and strong?

But why? I know John did not like his and changed it. But I am fine with it in my 53. Rides well, handles well. Bulky yes. Hard to reach the lower front of motor, yes. But quit driving it to change it, NAW!

I also have no issues with the one I installed 20+ years ago in my '55.

It's not that it probably won't work but it looks terrible and bulky and a tci front end will look a lot better

Hey, wait a minute, it doesn't look terrible. Well not with the hood shut and down low like mine. Just kidding. Of course it's ugly. I'm ugly too. Still just gonna keep driving her.

They call me "No Show Joe", so that might explain me. Just kiddin about your choice of MII. Build like you like it and have fun.

from the engine bay they are about the same. there is the steering linkage and you have to cut the inner fenders.

I have two trucks, 1 with each.

my green truck is definitely show.

If you leave the factory mounting ears on the Volare (as most seem to do) they do look ugly. I cut mine off, along with anything that was not needed and it really cleaned up the look. Everything was welded closed, shut or boxed and it don't look bad. But it is your time and money and as said, and I agree, build it how YOU want, it's your truck.

Good luck

I for one am not going to sit here and listen to you make fun of Niolon. I see right through this sham of a post as a jab at the man we all love and respect. If John wants to redo his front end twice, or three times or even four, that's his business. And if he wants to take fifteen years to do what most do in 2, that's his business too. Please leave him alone.

Sorry John, couldn't resist the opportunity to "poke the bear." Jag

I have the Volare suspension in my 55 project and plan to completely disassemble it, do some powdercoating, painting, etc. I have been trimming and boxing and smoothing over the entire assembly and should look pretty clean by the time I am done. My question is, where can I find information on rebuilding and setting up this suspension? I have found torsion bar bushings but I won't know what else is worn or where to get them until it is apart.

You will need upper and lower ball joints, upper A arm bushings, lowers control arm bushings, tie rod ends and a idler arm. You should be able to get it all from places like Rock Auto and Summit Racing in addition to your favorite local auto parts store.

I see you are in Chico and if you plan on coming to Reno for Hot August Nights in a few weeks Summit offers 10% off and free shipping on things you order in the Sparks store during Hot August Nights. The last two years I ordered about $5000 worth of stuff during the event and saved $500. Might be worth the trip and if you wanted you could stop by on your way through and check out the front end in my truck.

I picked mine up from Energy Suspensions, as they have poly bushings.
