09 f150 4.6 running rough
hey guys, i usually spend most of my time over in the super duty section but my boss is having a problem with his 2009 f-150 and i'm trying to get some brownie points by helping him out.
the truck always ran perfect till two days ago. went to start it in the middle of the day , it would barely start, when it did it was missing bad. then seemed to clear up a little after about 30 seconds but still missing. they thought they got some bad fuel. so they dropped the tank cleaned it all out and got new fuel, no change.
him and a so called mechanic "kid from fire stone" played around switching coil packs around from the injectors with no change.
he tells me that the two front cylinders , one on each side are not firing. that those two spark plugs are coming out fuel soaked after running the truck.
he thinks it dropped a lifter or push rod popped out of place.
i took my A/E over and came up with codes p0106 - map sensor, and p0135 - 02 sensor. i cleared them and started the truck, shut it back off ran codes again. same one's
he also said they pulled the 02 sensor and it still ran the same.
any idea's would be great. thanks

Seems to me like that kid at Firestone knows what he's talking about. It's insane to drop the tank without any kind of evidence of bad fuel. In this situation troubleshooting the coils by swapping them out makes complete sense, and he located the issue by taking far less time than it took to waste perfectly good gas and drop the tank.

well as stated in my 1st. post the problem came from bad fuel "funny smell & water". that caused the truck to cough and buck and pop. that's why the tank was dropped. and after the boss decided to swap coils around to see what was what, he then pulled the v/c to find the lifter and rocker arm laying on the side. in both front cyl. replaced those parts just because ,as he told me. " i was not their" he claims the truck runs good as new again.

i told the boss what you said in your post. he said he would be more than happy to give you the gas we took out of this truck to put into your new 2013 free of charge. just keep in mind it has water in it and smells like old river barge stale fuel. i'm no expert but, i can see where bad fuel could cause a motor to jump and jerk hard enough to kick the parts aside. anyway , thanks for the well wishes.
