2002 X 4x4 V-10 Build Thread

I do one of these for each of my Fords. Figured I'd continue the trend with the latest toy.

2002 Excursion XLT
V-10
4x4
77,3xx miles at purchase

Bone friggin' stock. Prior owner even went so far as to put the exact same OEM tires on when last replaced. I'm the 2nd owner. Interior is in perfect condition. All panels luckily are there and work except for the Garage Door Holder/Opener in the overhead...wonder why that always breaks?

The Plan:
Performance:
Straight Pipe or Magnapack Style Muffler - undecided at the moment
5Star 89 Octane Performance Tune
Zoodad
Full Brake Fluid flush

Suspension:
F-250 springs rear
Modded Excursion springs front
F-250/350 Swaybar or Hellwig...whatever is cheapest
New shocks

Good Looks Department:
Update front end to 2005-2007 look
08+ Tow Mirrors
DIY Harley Headlights
V-10 badges/emblems
Pretty/Shiny Exhaust tip
Fog Lights
Billet Gas Door
"Superduty" Front Windshield Replacement
Flip Brakelights and add 2nd bulb to each housing
33/10.5/16 Goodyear M/T's (mainly for looks, and won't kill MPG's)

Interior/General Mods:
OEM Leather skins to replace craptastic cloth
2010 F-150 Rearview mirror with LCD screen
Backup Camera
DVD unit in overhead for kids
Double Din radio
Fix Cruise Control
Jump seat and ditch useless console
F-250 Drivers Pillar with grab handle
05-07 F-250 Lower dash so I can get my "little" glovebox back
I'll add more as I come across ideas. I've been bookmarking good ideas/mods over the years. And in the 2-3 weeks I've owned this rig, I've already made some decent progress on Pimpin' My Ride

Zoodad done. IAT's have dropped noticeably. Especially at stops and low speeds. I don't go blasting through water, so I'm not worried about sucking water in the intake

got my aftermarket 05-07 style heads. was trying to buy OEM heads...but people act like they're made of gold. These were $56 each shipped.

Notice, Made in Taiwan

Began the DIY Harley Mod on them

turned out very nicely. Less than $120 for this mod, and it'll make a world of difference IMO

got these off a 2006 F-250 XL. Doing the DIY Retrofit Cutting of the grill right now. Going to install the header panel so the 2006 style lights (post above) will fit without having to cut my 2002 header panel. I can't find a 2006 bumper and upper panel at the moment, so I'll just keep the 2002 bumper for the time being. If/when I find a 2006 bumper, I'll get a new chrome grill

Still not sure if I'll leave the XL grill black or PTM it with my lower "silverish" cladding.

going to take the flaking Ford emblem and see if I can strip all the blue off. I might get lucky and this be one of those emblems that is chromed underneath. not likely, but fingers crossed

2002 Bumper
2006 Header Panel
2006 DIY Headlights
2006 XL Grill cut to fit 2002 bumper

Not done yet. Had to button things up for the night. Will finish tomorrow. Here is a shot of both headers together. Also rattle can painted some stuff for a cleaner look. Have to redo the Zoodad on the new header panel

I've got <$150 in this upgrade.

Header: $20
Grill: $10
2006 Style headlights: $112 shipped
Tube of sealant: $4.64
Paint: free, had several cans laying around in garage
Grand total of $146.64

The 2002 bumper and 2006 header work together. but clearances are very close. It'll do for now until I find a 2005+ bumper and upper valance. doesn't look half bad IMO
