Finding a 302 with a 5 speed transmission
nice to hear that somone else is gonna use a 5 spd manual. As previously indicated, the 86 thru 95 mustangs will get you an EFI 302 and 5 speed. I will be using a combo from an 89. Note that the T5 arrangement will put the shifter back closer to the seat and you may have to make some adjustments for that. some guys on this board have already done this. As well, the standard T5 is rated for only 275 Ft-lbs. I would think that there should be some F150's around 80's and 90's that had 5 speeds behind a 302 or 5.0.

Sorry I wasn't thinking truck bench seat - the T5 you want is out of the S10 pickups. Shifter is almost exactly where you want it. Up to mid 90's will get you a mechanical speedo - after that they're electronic.
One other idea - my 86 has a 4 spd (4th is OD) that my tranny guy says it's an 87, but came with my truck. This is coupled to a efi 302 and would be my first choice. This does not have the granny low. It makes a great package with a 3.50 rear end.

There are 302 and 351 5-speed F-150s out there, just search the salvage yards. My wife kids me about my "little black book" because I have so many wrecking yards in it. The T-5 from the S-10 will have a different bolt pattern than a Ford and won't bolt up without an adapter. Don't worry about the Mazda sourced 5-speed, after all how much power acn a girly 302 put out?

Thanks for the info. Although I thought about going GM with the motor and tranny I finally decided to go all Ford. So I would prefer a 5-speed from an F-150 or a Mustang to go with the 302. Yes a 302, this truck is for my 16 year old son. Proportionately I am assuming the number of speeding tickets produced by a mildly built 302 will be fewer than a comparably built 351. Now if this was my truck the motor would be at least a 351.
