Headlight adjusters

So I haven't pulled the headlights apart yet but, is Mid Fifty the only ones that sell new adjusters and they have to be riveted on? (looks like the whole bucket has to come out to do it). Looking at it when the chrome rim is off it looks like a piece of plastic held in by metal tabs.

I used the search function and really didn't find anything.

Ok, I repaired mine since I didn't want to order one or rivet it on.

This only helps if the plastic is broken, if the metal is rotted away you need to replace the whole thing.

Broken plastic:

I had a box of various headlight adjusters and found one that the plastic was real close.
Part #42171

Just take the bolt out and remove the back (slight grinding of plastic needed). Your left with the plastic square and a little nipple on the backside. You can either cut off the nipple or leave a little, I chose to leave a little on for extra threads. I had to slightly bend out the lower tabs on the adjuster housing, slid the new plastic into place and bent the tabs back to hold the new plastic adjuster.

It looked like this:

Hope this helps someone, sorry I didn't think to take pictures as I was taking apart the new adjuster.

I just bought a box to keep as spares and a box of 2 was $5. You might find them even cheaper at Autozone, Oriley's or such as I bought mine from my local mom/pop auto parts store.........always support your local businesses or they'll go away.

Thanks for the tip.

Many times they have knowledge that the box stores don't. Support your local Ma & Pop parts store
