Just found out that the sending unit seal on my VW gas tank is no good. I filled the tank yesterday and gas was pooling up on top where the wires connect. I'll still see about driving it there but I definitely want a window down. I have a feeling that was the cause of my headache yesterday...
I've used Permatex before but won't it degrade from gasoline similar to oil? If I have to go through the trouble of buying a tube ment for gas applications then it would be wise to just but a whole gasket.
I read that #1 should work against gas. I've only got the red and orange stuff for headers and such. Maybe I'll drive down to AutoZone and see what they have. if they don't have a gasket on hand I might just get the permatex and slap some on.
Well I made it here. And with only minimal burning smells from the engine the bug did really well actually and was smoother than I expected. It handled bumps well but it seemed to wander a lot, or at least try too. I took it up to a out 67 mph before mellowing out at 60.
The drive home was alright, the bug wandered a bit more than the drive up there. I also found out I have a headlight out.
I checked at that book store but they don't have any of the John Muir books. They said they are quite collectable and don't stay in the store long. but there is one on capitol hill that is going out of business and their computer record shows they have one in stock. I was going to give them a call on Monday when they are open and find out. It's a bit of a drive but it might be worth it.
Also, after I got off the freeway the bug seemed to have a real hard time running. The idle was super low and when I would start going from a stop it would chug real bad like it was dieing until it got up to speed. If it gave it more gas before letting the clutch out it was fine but that cause a ton of slipage and wasn't fun. More issues to investigate though.
You could of has the Southcenter store have them ship it down
I am trying to remember things. The wandering could be the toe
setting. I had a Ranger that was off and when I put new tires on it
talk about all over the place. Squirrely is the bast way to describe it.
