Overheating at top speed
#16
overheating too.. F2-v8
took tk for its first cruise since i got it.. speedo needs to be fixed so i don't know of speed but felt like 45 to 50 area.. mine too when to the "H" and started to smell.. turned around and woopie, i blew a hose off. anyways... going to look into 140° stat's and a filled capillary temp gage. i don't trust the old gages. i did notice when the hose blew i had what looked like cloth fibers comming out. 2 finger full when i pulled the rad cap.. i think i'll pull the rad and flush it too...

Many of the old trucks do not cool well at higher speeds. This is usually due to a fan shroud and many bladed fan. If you are driving faster than the fan would pull the air in, then the shroud and fan block the air.
Basically your truck is telling you to slow down. If you are 100% stock then the 4.86 axle ratio will have your six spinning quite fast above 50 m.p.h. A 4.11 ratio rear axle should help.
