To convert air ride suspension or not?...

I have a 2001 Expedition XLT A4WD with the air ride suspension system, I just purchased the vehicle a few weeks ago and am not familiar with the system. However, after reading some posts on the forum it seems that my system is working properly as it only comes on for 10 seconds or so when the vehicle is first started and when it begins to move and does not come on again until vehicle is turned off. I assume that is normal? My front air shocks seem to be original or at the least pretty old. The front end makes a wheel hop motion at low speed turns that seems to be at each full wheel revolution. The front shocks also are quite rough at high speed when going over any bumps or irregularities in the road. I was hoping for some opinions on whether to just repalce the front air shocks or do the full conversion to springs and shocks. I will be doing some towing with my 19 ft bass boat while traveling from Delaware to Florida and back, on a vacation in a few weeks and obviously would like to avoid any suspension issues while traveling.
Thanks in advance for any input.

The air suspension sounds to me like it's working perfectly, so there's no reason to replace it. The hopping you're experiencing is usually caused if the front axle is being powered as though you're in 4WD, or if the front end alignment is out of specs.

Thanks for the reply.
It is a all wheel drive model, so it is always in 4 wheel drive. I still don't think it should experience that kind of wheel hop when turning, i am hoping it is front air shock related and by replacing them it will help. Alignment is good.

Expeditions don't have all wheel drive, they have automatic 4WD. That means when in the A4WD mode, it's supposed to only be 2WD until rear wheel spin (slippage) is detected, then power is automatically sent to the front axle to aid with traction.
