As far as bolt and go? A 650 should be ok, still planning on using the stock intake or thinking upgrade to aluminium?

Best carb for my mild 429's I built were motorcraft's. 10 bucks from pick and pull, with 12.50 rebuild kits.

"Motorcrap" is prolly the carb that's been in place for 30 years, never maintained and still managed to rack up 200k plus miles.

Personally hated holley's, but I was not very experienced with them.

The edelbrocks with vac secondaries, were closest to set and forget.

I recently installed a Holley 690 on my stock 460 and am extremely pleased with it. So pleased that I find myself enjoying the smooth acceleration a little too much.

Carbs are like women, everyone likes something a little different but they all get the job done. For a stock engine, the Edelbrock Performer intake or the Weiand Stealth are fine. If sometime down the line you plan on building a better engine then go with the Stealth. I have always liked the Carter/Edelbrock carbs. My truck came with one when I bought it. After a little work on the choke settings and primary jets/rods I got her purring really good. The 600cfm seems to be plenty. Good luck.

I have a 460 that has been built with cam, heads, intake, headers, ignition. I tried both a new Edelbrock 750 and a Holley 750. Ended up keeping the Holley and selling the Edelbrock. I just thought I had more adjustibility with the Holley over the Edelbrock. And yes, if I was to do it over, I'd go with an 850.

Also consider Summit's house-branded 750 cfm clone of the Holley 3310. 'recommed vacuum secondaries to eke out that last bit of MPG. About $260 right now although I got a 600 for $230 a few months ago.

Last month I replaced my original Motorcraft 4300 carb on my stock 74 460 with a new Street Demon 625 model #1901. I researched the Holley's, Edelbrocks, and Fuel Technology carbs, including opinions from guys on the 460Ford.com forum. Opinions were all over the board. I almost went with the Fuel Technology carb but it was a little pricey. I tried the Street Demon and it installed pretty easily and did some fine tuning. It runs excellent and I should have done this a year earlier. I considered a larger carb, 750, but my 460 is completely original and stock and I don't plan on making any upgrades so the 750 might have been too much carb in my case.

Ummm..not trying to be an a$$clown, but my motorcraft carb was made by Holley, as are the majority if not all. Holley has been with Ford since the very beginning, and actually, they are very easy to set up and maintain. You set the floats while it's running for example. I've got a 460 in my motorhome, and just picked up a Holley 600cfm for it. Installed easy, set up easy and was less than 340$ not bad!and it runs great. Just do your setup right ,don't hurry ,and you'll have a winner.
