check engine light and blinking overdrive light

Hi

I have a 1997 f350 crew cab 4x4 deisel. The check engine light keeps coming on and also noticed last time the overdrive light blinking. The truck will looose power and shift hard, then the lights turn off after driving awhile or turning the truck off and restarting. went to autozone and no code found using a acton autoscanner plus reader.

Any help would be great

Rest assured there are fault codes stored in your pcm. theres only a few scanners that can read the codes on your truck, and the one you mentioned isnt one of them. snap on makes one that will work, also the aeroforce scangauge does it too. theres a computer program called autoenginuity thats the one I use. theres a few others that I dont remember the names of. if all else fails and you dont want to cough up the money for one of the sacanners Ive mentioned the dealership can retreve your trouble codes for a price.

Most reputable shops can get the codes too, but like Ken said, its gonna cost you probably 50-100 bucks.

Did you call Ford, or a Ford Dealer? There is a big difference.

If one dealer wants $138 to pull your codes, call a different one.

The edge is known to fry pcm's on these trucks, so I wouldn't recommend them. If you want a programmer that will read codes, superchips is probably your best option. Remember if you go this way, the programmers will not give you as much power as a custom chip will, and cost about the same. The benefit is the code reading.

OK

I just purchased autoenginuity total ford package, but it reads no error codes.

Any clue on why?

It should read 1 code, P1111 which is "every thing is OK".
Does it connect at all?

My Scan Gauge reports P1111. I don't know if AE does or not, don't have one, so maybe someone will chime in and let us know.
