Thermostat housing gasket

Hello, new to the forum so forgive me if I make any mistakes... I went to change the thermostat on my 84 bronco inline 6 today and discovered their wasn't a thermostat in the housing. My question Is, when installing the new thermostat what is the proper configuration for housing and gasket? Any help is greatly appreciated...

Welcome to FTE and the Big Bronco Forum. We will do our best to get you the most accurate information we can.

As for the thermostat, a new one will typically come with a new gasket. The thermostat should be set in place first with the wax ferrule DOWN. The gasket lays over the top of it and the water neck bolts down on top of the whole shebang.
