FYI - 2015 Ford Expedition to get 5.0 liter "Coyote" V-8 and 10-speed auto

Yep, there is a desire to have that combo. In fact there is a 2012 f with the 6.7 being built into an excursion in the excursion folder of FTE by one of the members there. Documented with pics of the process as he moves along. Very fascinating work. There a more and more of these custom builds being made. Check out custom autos by Tim . com without the spaces as see his work.
Here is a link to the build. https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...excursion.html
As for an X fitting in the garage I think the Expy sits 4" shorter, maybe slightly more than the Xcursion.

Forum police removed that thread... all pics removed. Wonder if Ford placed call?

Ford and GM are jointly developing a 10 speed trans for the half tons and full size SUV's. Who knows when it'll be ready.
The Navi is getting the 3.5L for sure. Looks like the Expy will be ignored for a while longer.

Looks like the Expy is getting a little massage of its own.

My guess is that since the Expedition isn't anywhere near the volume seller that the F-150 is, they aren't committing anywhere near the resources to it. Rather, they're limiting the amount of money they infuse into it in order to not have as much to recoup.

Okay, I wasn't sure if you'd seen the thread or the news about the '15 Expy.

Of course, with the fold flat rear seating in the Expy, it requires a split rear axle also known as IRS which is a stand alone and pricey feature. BUt the shear fact that the Expy has been using the 5.4L and a very dated front end for years shows it's not a high volume seller like it once was. Ford sold some 38,500 units in 2013.

This is kind of a small discussion in the 2015 forum right now. People are wondering if they are going to build a full sized SUV based on the new F-150. It would make sense and likely make production costs somewhat more palatable if the Expy and F-150 shared some stampings, frame, drivetrains and interiors to varying degrees.

That said, the fact that the GM trio is now offering fold flat seating is going to challenge Ford because that was one of my big hangups when it came to considering another GM full-size SUV. Having to remove the third row seats to fully utilize that cargo area was a royal PITA with the Yukon. With that no longer being an issue, I imagine GM is going to be claiming a few more sales than before.

I've always been a Ford guy. Had a 2007 Expedition with 110,000 miles, I was ready to buy a new vehicle. I just couldn't make myself buy something that was for the most part, the same as what I already had. So when I keep hearing about the low sales volume of the Expedition, just makes me think that if Ford had gotten changes/upgrades made to the Expi several years ago, would there low sales volume not be a issue.
I know there would be a real good chance I'd be in a new Expedition. Instead, a diehard Ford guy, is now a happy Durango owner.

My 07 EL limited struggles to tow our travel trailer. According to Fords claimed towing capacity it should handle it, not the case. We end up taking two vehicles everywhere; her with the kid and me with the trailer behind my F250. That being said, if the best engine Ford is going to offer is the 5.0 then I'm out. I will jump ship and buy the new Yukon XL Denali equipped with a 6.2 V8 over a 5.0 limited Expy EL.
cracked radiator replaced
AC compressor replaced
Frozen front caliper replaced
Wheel Bearings replaced.
Front differential rebuilt TWICE!
U joints replaced
Looking to get a 12'-13' Expy EL now

I wish they would just offer a more fuel efficent motor. The 5.4 is a joke. On a long trip im seeing maybe 14-15mpg driving 75-80. I could put it on a trailer behind my f250 and come close to replicating that milage. Or if I have to suffer with crappy milage give me more hp so I can feel good about it

This is really a bad move for Ford. Once again their arrogance will cloud good judgement. Not everyone wants an ecoboost, trusts the concept or wants to pay the premium for the engine be it standard or optional. There should have been two offerings, the 3.5L as standard in the high end models and available across the platform and the 5.0L as the base.
