I think the c6 is a different length, but only by a inch or so. It might work. I looked in Autozone's site and they sell the front driveshaft for this truck, and they don't have different types for a auto or 4 speed, so it looks like it will be close.

Yes, it will work. I have two trucks - one started life as a C6/NP208 and the other as a 435/208. I've swapped the drive shafts between them several times - both front and rear for that matter. Further, you can swap in a ZF5 and still use the same shaft.

Gary: what is the length on your 4WD C-6 w/o the transfer case? Mine in my "84 F150 measures approx. 25.5". Length on the ZF5 is given as 29.5". Do your have that much adjustment length on the shafts or is my measurement on the C-6 in error?

I get 25 3/4" on the C6 from bell housing to t-case mounting flange. I can measure the ZF later today if need be, but I had to move the crossmember back just less than an inch for the ZF, so I'm pretty sure it isn't 4" longer. And whatever difference there is was easily accounted for in the splines on the drive shaft.

Thinking of the splines, I know that when I put a 2wd truck on my lift I have problems getting the rear drive shaft off because the rear axle swings forward and the splines bottom out on the shaft. But, I don't have that problem with a 4wd truck, even after installing the ZF. So, there are still splines left.

Thanks for taking the time to measure. I have a swap in mind and I'm trying to work out all the details in advance (sure, like that's going to work). I have several transmission options and am looking for the various difficulties with each combo, drive shaft changes being one.

Thanks! I'll have more questions, that's for sure. I'll start a new thread or find the preliminary one I started some time back and bump it back up with more questions.
