2wd tranny to 4wd tranny

What do i need to do to change the 2wd C-6 tranny over to the 4wd tranny? is it even possible or would it be cheaper to just find a 4wd C-6? Also is the C-6 4x4 tranny only a married deal or is it possible to have it divorced?

Thanks Tim

What truck are we talking about?
With the C6s changing over is just not that easy but possible .. If you've never done it then steer clear is my advice .. The divorced transfer idea is what I'm doing on my lowboy but I already had a Highboy parts vehicle .. This option gives you all kinds of tranny options not just the C-6 and they can be 2wd trannys you'll just need a custom drive shaft between the trans and the transfer case .. If done right you can reuse the drive shafts from the highboy from transfer case to differentials ..

I have all the parts. This is going in a 1975 HB behind a 390. I think i can just cut the old driveshaft and I should be good to go. Alteast that was my thinking in the beggining.

I have a 76 highboy with a 390/C-6 all original and the tranny is a short shaft 2wd C-6

Depending on the vehicle that 390 in the link may have the short shaft c-6 .. The short shaft should be easy to find but the short shaft 2wd housing will be harder to find .. At the end of the day if your long shaft tranny has enough space between it and the divorced transfer case a custom drive shaft may be the cheapest by shortening the one you have .. What trans. are you currently running in your truck?

Yeah I know how that goes When mama is happy everybody is happy .. so measure long shaft C-6 from bell to center of yoke and measure from back of block to center of yoke on transfer case .. post back results .. also measure your current drive shaft from center of u-joint cap to center of u-joint cap ..
