Im a 7.3 owner currently, but I was looking at a truck a little newer for a daily work truck (currently have a work van)

Got a little guy on the way so the wife want me to get something a car seat can go in ! haha

Anyway.. Its an '08 but it had 165k on the ticker... lariat fx4 model, 4 door, at 19k... the break pedal is warn and so is the driver seat so Im guessing it had a lot of stop and go driving.
a lot of in and out of the vehicle..

should i be worried about this millage or buy buy buy ? ha

I dont have much info on the previous owner.. or service.. but its seems to run good and the fluids arnt to bad..
Its a warm weather truck so I cant check cold starts very well ...

I think I'd keep on looking, especially with that kind of mileage.
You need to expand you grid, I bought mine 5 months ago from NC, no rust, 6 k under blue book. Took 6 weeks of looking but they are out there.

 

I bought mine a year ago exactly, and its the exact same as that. 165k, FX4, a little wear. I gave 18 for it. IMO, its not terrible, but not a great deal either.

 

yeah, I'd be worried but not scared. There aren't many of these around with that kind of mileage yet. The best thing I can suggest is that you spend a couple hours on here and read up on the DPF, tuning a truck and the cooling systems on the 6.4L. I would also strongly say that you must have the maintainance records in order to make a decision. If a dealer has it as a trade in he should be willing to hook you up with the person who traded it in. If it's on a coner lot and came from the auction I'd be very wary. If you have some big time repairs the price of the truck could double in a hurry. Be careful.

 

Yea - The maintenance records are few... dealer says "trade in" but they lie like penny in a parking lot of the grocery store to get a car off the lot !

That many miles is why it went to auction..bought up for a steal

 

how do you even put 40k a year on a truck... even 30k ...

Plus 30k divide by ave 15mpg (conservative if your not towing).. = 2000 gal... times $4 gal.. (also conservative) ...man .. $8000... devide by 12..

I had a bit more to say eariler but got called to eat, never turn that down. If you have or can make a friend at a ford dealer get the vin from the truck and ask your friend to get an Oasis report. That might give you some clues. I'm assuming the truck is stock with the DPF on, that could mean it's getting close to needing a cleaning. As to price Sennix is right, they bought that truck cheap cheap cheap. Here's the line you want to pay the most attention to: Owning a 6.4L out of warranty is a roll of the dice and could get very pricey very quickly.

 

I put 30K on a truck for many years, not hard at all and it got about 13mpg.

You need an oasis report to get some kind of idea about what has been done to it, price is astronomical. Carfax can even have some service records and should list if it was sold at auction. Being an auction truck doesn't bother me outright, I've bought my share via a dealer and never had issues.

I'd be worried that it has been making oil for most of those 165K miles and eating up bearings.

 

I put around 20K a year on mine. And about the same on my car.

 

I have access to reports cause I work for ford up here in Detroit.
but it only tells you DEALER service records..

Carfax is a little more complete.. but you really need to combine both and talk to the oridiongal owner..

I think there is another post in the 6.4 forum of a guy looking at purchasing a 2010 with 100K for 16.5K so maybe I would think twice about that deal.

 

I bought my truck last December with just over 50k on it.
Right now it has 89k.
So I'm at 39k in just over a year. It is what it is.
I enjoy driving so I'm gunna take my truck rather than worry about the fuel and miles.
But anyways, like everyone has stated.. Without maintenance records I would be a little leary.
Otherwise seems like a fair price depending on the condition of the truck.
