89 bronco with an 83 300 carb I want to switch to EFI

So the carburetor on my bronco has been half a**put together, and when I took it off found the choke butterfly epoxied in place.

I have found the EFI intake manifold with TB, fuel rail, injectors, harness, air box w/ hoses, distributor, and computer for less then a new carburetor. What else do I need? Will it simply be go buy a gasket pull my exh. man and intake man replace gasket, bolt up old exh man and efi man, and plug up harness and comp, or is there going to be more to it then that?

"Will it simply be..." Nothing is quite that simple. Fuel delivery from the tanks to the injector pump, various assorted and sundry sensors that the computer needs to function, etc.,...it's more than just swapping over a few parts.

A Duraspark II swap on an 89 Bronco might not be that bad if it was done correctly. 87 Ford F-series trucks with a 351 Windsor HO and a 460 came with Duraspark II those years, so it could be done and look "sort of" factory.

However, you say it was butchered up, so I'm going to tell you what needs to be changed back out to make it EFI again. Bear in mind, this is the short list. The long list is something you don't want to see.

High pressure electric in-tank fuel pump
Upper and lower EFI intake manifolds
EFI exhaust manifolds
87 to 96 EFI head
Fuel rail
Injectors
Oxygen sensor(s)
Computer
Distributor
Throttle body
All of the associated smog equipment (Air pump, EGR, EVAP components)
New exhaust + Catalytic converter
Gasket set for all of the replaced top-end components
Factory wiring harnesses to re-connect the computer and all of the missing components

And much, MUCH more.

At this point, it'll be best to buy a donor vehicle, swap all of the components from the good vehicle to fix yours, and then part out the donor. Or try and make what you already have work correctly.

But then you have to deal with all of the issues that aren't even related to the engine that are probably present with your Bronco.

You bought a headache. It will not be an easy fix.

This can be made to work, without that much difficulty. It has the right carb, distributor, and coil on it, and it looks like the guy tried to work with a DSII harness, which was a good thing.

The first thing you need to do is get that hacked up electric fan job out of there. That's a BS job under the hood of that truck, and if I were you, I'd crash the thing into the dudes house and walk away without EVER looking back. Half of the wiring the dude has strewn across the engine bay looks like it is for that stupid electric fan setup! The stock clutch fan that went on the front of the motor is comparable to an electric fan setup when you calculate the draw on the alternator. It wouldn't have been so bad if he did it right.

Get a fan with a clutch on the front of the motor and pull all that BS out. Then you can start going through the factory wiring and getting the motor to run right.

You'll want to find an 87 F150 with a 351 High Output with the DSII ignition, or an F350 or F250 from 87 with either the 351 HO or the 460.

Start getting donor parts off of those vehicles to restore your engine bay back to stock. You'll want to find a new ignition wiring harness as well. You can get those from any 1976 to 1983 F-series with the 300 and DSII. I recommend one from a 300 because of the tachometer plug, but any harness from a DSII equipped vehicle will work.

A lot of the stuff from 1987 was used up until 1991, but I recommend getting everything off of an 87 so you can set it up as if it were a stock DSII vehicle.

Then, you'll want to pick up some wiring diagrams for your year Bronco and wire it up like an 87 with Duraspark II.

You'll probably be spending a lot of time in the 1987 to 1996 forum.
