Correct valve spring installed height?

I am installing the valve springs in my FE that came in my new Comp cam kit. I called Summit and they said to install them at the stock height (1.820), then I called Comp and they said to install my springs at 1.800 which would put the pressure up to 325ish. open. This almost seems like a lot of pressure for a flat tappet cam? What do you guys recommend?

Spring specs
1.800- 109 lbs.
1.300- 317 lbs

.020" makes that big a difference? Personally, I'd believe the spring manufacturer over the reseller

What RPM range are you looking at running? The lower the pressure, the lower the RPM at which the valves will float.

In the text you reference 1.820 and 1.800.

Under spring specs you reference 1.800 and 1.300.

Are we missing something? 1.800 vs. 1.820 would or should not result in the 200+ lb difference you show.

It`s gonna see 6,000 rpm occassionally and I want it to be able to take it without floating valves.

If I install the springs at 1.820 they`ll be about 95lbs closed/305 open versus being installed at 1.800 where they`ll be 109lbs closed/325 open.

I know it isn`t much difference but I just don`t want to put too much pressure on my cam and wipe a lobe out.
Also my book says stock valve springs are around 280lbs open.

I was missing something. Thanks for not calling me names.

On the subject, some numbers here you have to wade through it, but on topic:

The thread makes me think you are already aware, but JTMS

Dont assume that a spring gauge, set to specs will emulate your FE valve train spring geometry. Check each, as the spring seats are cut not milled like VC rail or rocker stands. CB and IH are an animal of their own. What will likely be the find is all are different from an OEM cut spring seat. Shims only duplicate the issue creating spring press diff. Take a real good look at all the geometry and it will make sense, perfection is a pipe dream. The rockers are on a rail, adjustable only by = base shims under all stands. Done right IMO install 16 seats, cut in reference to stand bosses so all V stem locks align. Add shims to base of springs atop cut VP seats to match coil bind, IH pressures, then if all is ok. Degree cam and rockers, assured the push rods are identical..

Or just bolt that SOB and run it!!

Thanks for the info. I am just going to set the installed heights to 1.800 since it wont put me over my max spring pressure for a flat tappet cam.

Don't forget the assembly lube/high zink break-in oil etc.
