Torque converter, made a mistake!

Guys,

I have a 2001 excusion 7.3 diesel with a 4r100 trans. I followed the threads to do a fluid change and I did everything as instructed except - the TC drain plug. Instead of torquing the plug to 18 ft lbs, I drove the plug in too far, I think.

Now, I have a clicking, clanking noise at the TC when I put it in reverse. I also notice the noise in drive when it shifts in some cases. I did back off the plug and it did stop until the next day when the fluid was cold.

What did I do to this TC.? I will back off the plug again and test it. But any insight would be appreciated.

Great site by the way.
