simple answer yes and no.
the efi heads are different from the carbed heads, so you have to use the corresponding intake and exhaust manifolds for the heads you are planning to use or get adapters depending on what combo you are planning on running.
also the 460 pistons and 429 pistons have different pin hole locations as they have different cranks but same bore and connecting rods. so you have to use the 460 pistons with a 460 crank and 429 with 429.
another thing is that the crank from the 429 will not fit in the D9TE blocks (which are used on the efi engines) as the counterweights hit the block. up till somewhere around 78/79, all engines (429 and 460) were internally balanced. after 79 they were externally balanced (block casting number D9TE). you can put the externally balanced cranks (and corresponding flywheel and hatchet weight) in the older blocks, but not the other way around.
most other parts are completely interchangeable, just some parts are not.

AFAIK, the 370/429 are internally balanced all years. I think the hd's are only compatible w/hd cranks though, so you couldn't use an older 429 car crank in it. HD 429 crank has a larger snout than a car/truck crank, so it won't work with the timing set/balancer/spacer for a car 429, no putting the cam back in the right place with a pre-smog timing set... short version, no, probably not for you...

My 1978 step-side F100. Engine is pulled. I have a 69 mercury 429 with a thrown rod through the block and smog heads redone about 15k miles ago per previous owner - has Smog adapter to carb. I also have a 460 (supposedly rebuilt) D1ve and head D3Ve not rebuilt that has rust internally a supposedly rv cam, old heads and hone marks on cylinder walls and a little rust. does have new pistons and fresh bearings all greased so never run plus double timing - has stripped holes in fuel pump casing. My question - Want to use for rebuild of the 460 with local machine shop. Assuming these pieces are good - Can I rebuild the 460 with 80 over (currently 60) with new pistons etc - use 429 heads I have with Smog pluged - use existing RV cam in 460 with double timing straight up - hopefully crank and cam are good. Fuel Pump piece on front from 429. Will be using performer 4v intake and new edle 750cfm for carb. Do you see any problems. Any advice would be appreciated..
