It's a questionable rebuild at that. So what it has "25,000" miles on the re-build. Lots of users on here have years of 7.3 experience. Trust them, keep looking. It sounds like someone is trying to dump their money pit. Really the only way to roast a 7.3 comes from beating it to death with a tuner, overloading it and more beating it. Why the heck would anyone sell a freshly rebuilt 7.3. I'd pass on it Serisouly, it's a money pit.

and what happens if it ends up being a $1500-$2500 repair then how much is it worth. The truck isn't worth much because it is a falling apart work truck. no I wouldn't want to let a 7.3L for $2500 go but doesn't mean if I had to sell it I wouldn't. As far as I can see it is a guy trying to get rid of a truck that is falling apart so he doesn't have to spend money on it.

Thats what im thinking. I dont think the 4x4 is a simple hub issue, at 300,000 miles transfer cases do not last forever, especially if not maintained. Think about the front and rear diffs, those need bearings too, The trucks can go way past 300k only if their maintained. This truck sounds like it was worked to death.

Not sure how a ripped seat and a dirty interior constitutes worked to death but whatever, from the pics the op posted it looks like a pretty decent ride for 4 to 5 grand.

It's an XL with lots of speculation. 7.3's do not need any major work until 500,00 if they are maintained. My 7.3 has 285,000 miles on it, well maintained and has perfect compression. The fastest way to kill a 7.3 is hot tunes with no gauges or towing with hot tunes and no gauges. How's the diff bearings look? How's the transfer case? If the owner is a "mechanic " why does he not know what's wrong. The tcase could be shot, the front axle shafts could be stripped out. It's a simple fact it's beat for the truck needing that much work. How much rust is under the fender flares?

I agree it could be a piece of crap and without looking at in person we wont know for sure,I am just going off of the pics and what 7.3 trucks bring in general. I hope for the op that its decent and he can get it at a good price.

Don't buy it. That truck is in extremely rough shape and asking 8k is just plain stupid, 3-4k is even pushing it. The right truck for you will come along, just keep your eyes open.

I just checked out the pics... it looks decent, but seeing it in person is a whole other ballgame. If you can get it CHEAP and are willing to put some money into it, then go for it. But I would pass.

Tcase is fine. I checked that one. Which is why I suspected the hubs. The inside ain't bad It's manual everything (XL) and has rubber floor (no carpet) which I like for hunting and getting dirty cuz it's easy to clean. There has not been a chip in it. He lives on a farm so he said he hauled hay and horses every once in awhile. The reason for selling (he said) was he needed a crew cab and wanted the XLT model. Which he has bought already. This guy has two kids and his wife so I can understand. Like I said the guy lives an hour away so I haven't been able to look it over a second time. I looked a little under the truck and I couldn't find rust.
