I need a new tailgate, do I have to remove the torx screws or does the gate lift off 2001 s-crew

Disconnct the cables on each side.
The gate ends have a flat spring keeping them on.
The gate just lifts off one end first then sidewise to
out the other end about an inch..
Look at both ends. One has a cup the gate fits into, the other side is open at about a 45 degree angle so the gate stays attached when laying flat.
Caution, the gate weights about 55 lbs.
good luck.

I believe the screws use a different size tailgate than the other trucks. So you probably have to find a tailgate from another screw 00-03 (not sure what year the screws started).

Just did a google search and checked the site that I linked below. It looks like the Screws and Stylesides use the same tailgate. My tailgate is suffering from the effects of 12 Western NY winters and is getting a little rusty and weak.

Best to have two people....they are clumsy to grab and one of the heaviest tailgates I have ever seen. They just lift out...mine is notched on the right side so when you open it about 12" it will lift off the peg and then the left side just slides off that peg. No screws to remove.
