New Shell Rotella 0W40 CJ4 oil...
There was a thread earlier about the 10W40 T5 spec oil and invariably 5W40 and 0W40 was brought up.
The older Rotella T5 0W40 WAS NOT CJ4 compatible, nor was it CI-4.
Introducing.... (insert drum roll)

Shell releases motor oil for extremely cold conditions
That's pretty cool. I really want a 0W40, but found it cost prohibitive at nearly $40 a gallon. I'm sure the price of this is comparable to T6 5W40.
Have to find out after the holidays what's up.

I love the pour point... nearly -60 degrees fahrenheit!

I'm using it this winter. It was exactly the same price as the other Rotella synthetics. I got it at my local Walmart, in Ontario, Canada. I decided to try it since I was expecting some decently cold weather but so far haven't seen it, the coldest start I've had so far was in the mid-teens. Truck seems to like it a lot, starts are excellent and the truck is idling smooth and quiet (as quiet goes with a 6.0) after about a second. Also, it comes in 5 litre containers up here, so three jugs do an oil change with some left over. The Mobil One comes in smaller jugs and I need some extra to make up the oil change, or buy 4 jugs and have a lot left over.

I know Canada and Alaska get some neat stuff the lower 48 cannot get, but the CJ4 0W40 is brand new and just announced a few days ago.

I don't have the bottles any more but I know I checked for the CJ-4 API label. It was T-6, they only had 2 jugs so I topped up with T-5 5W-40 It was in 5 litre jugs for $42.99, less than the Mobil 1 at $48.99 for 4.4 litres. I actually got it at Canadian Tire, it was brand new, I had never seen it before.

I also used the T5 0W40 once. It is expensive in Canada, if you add the 15% taxes we have here it makes it up to 48 dollars, so $9.60 a liter. I just checked the 5 liters that my son bought for his Cummins a few months ago and it was T5 0W40. Ford dealer here put in 0W30 in winter, I think they use a synthetic blend, my last oil change at the dealer a few years ago was like in the $190.00 for 0W30.
If I remember the T6 5W40 was around $23.00 for 3.78 liters at Wally in USA, depending on taxes, it makes it around $6.50 a liter. So this will make a $45.00 difference. Oil Filter is just about the same price in USA and Canada at Wally.
Hope to see that T6 0W40 on the shelf soon in USA, I would buy a few gallons and do an oil change before comming back to Canada.
After reading all the post on the importance of synthetic oil, this is what I will be using from now on. This 0W40 T6 would be nice in winter if it is not too expensive.
