Check the axle code on the door tag to find out the gear ratio. I forget what code is what but just do a search for a door tag decoder. If you have the 3.55 gears you'll probably want to put in a lower ratio, if you have the 4.10s then you're fine.
As for fitting, well my F250 has 265/75r16's now but I have a lot of room to go bigger, 35's might be possible. HOWEVER it looks like someone may have put a body lift in mine at some point. I'm not positive.
If you have a beater truck than you should be able to get your clearance with a sawzall but you may still rub on the frame/suspension. On the other hand ~4" of lift should get you above some 35"s without having to hack on your truck if the body is nice.
