Weight of a 2004 F250 SD FX4

I may be purchasing the truck listed in the title. Seeing as I am not going to get insurance on it right away, I am in need to towing it back to my place. (Truck is 3 hours away.)

-How much does the truck weigh?
-What kind of towing trailer would I need, and is it easily rent-able?

Thanks.

Curb weight is 6270, I had a tough time finding this. Can't help ya much on the trailer part. I know U-Haul rents car trailers but not sure what their weight limits are.

Engine Type: Gas
Camshaft: SOHC
Compression Ratio: 9.0:1
Torque: 350
Fuel Tank Capacity: 29.0
Curb Weight: 6270
GVWR (Gross Vehicle Weight Rating): 8800
Payload: 2460
Towing: 8600 ( 2003 )

Diesel will be heavier I'm sure

Our crew cab in the picture with a 6.0 weighs in with full fuel at about 8000# at a local elevator.

Curb weight will vary with length (both bed and cab) and engine option. Details for all combos can be found here

You may need to subtract max payload from GVWR.

Looks like anywhere from 5900 to 7200. (The diesel is heavy.)

Are you towing it with 1 axle down, or all on the trailer? 1 way rentals are pricey, so consider dragging the trailer to the truck, and then bring the combo back.

You already have something that can tow that load, right?

have you thought about just callin your insurance carrier and getting temporary insurance? Rental of a trailer and fuel to tow it back will come in higher than the temp insurance and allow you to either register it, or pay the 30-40 bucks for temporary 30 day registration. Just a thought.

Sounds like its a 5.4, my super cab short bed 5.4 with 35s, a tool box and me weighs 6800 lbs, so truck is probably around 6500 id say. Id get an 8000 pound trailer minimum myself

Mine came in at 7140 when I took some old furniture to the dump. This was with a nearly empty gas tank.

Supercab, Short bed, 5.4, 4x4

Weight is between 6-8k. You will have a very hard time finding a rental trailer in that capacity and wide enough for a Superduty. You'll have just as hard of a time finding a truck set-up to deal with it. A rental big enough for the load, if you can find one, will be heavy and most likely have a pintle on it. Even if it is 2 5/16 it will not be set for a WD hitch. You will need a truck that can pull 10-12k and be able to handle 1000 to 2000lbs of tongue weight.
