79 F150 FRONT ROTOR REMOVAL

I need help with removing the drivers side front rotor. I've removed tire, 4x4 hub cap, removed what I would describe as a retainer ring that allowed a piece (not sure exactly what) to come out that was holding in a spring. Now I'm stuck, I don't see anything else thats holding the rest in and can't seem to get to the Lock nut. I have a lock nut socket (rented from Advance). Any help would be much appreciated. P.S. Not to sure how to upload pictures. I have one that illustrates where I'm at.

If I recall correctly, there is another large snap ring still in there. Get a pick (either a hook or an "L") and dig around for the end of the snap ring and circ it outta there.

Here's a diagram:

Thanks for the info... is and will be very helpful. I've gotten the first lock nut, spacer or washer and the second lock nut off. From what I've read the rest of the hub assembly and rotor should come off now?? It has a slight bit of movement now that the lock bolts are off but its not comming off. What's next?

There are two retainer clips... The one that goes around the axle shaft and the other which fits into a groove on the inside of the hub about 3/8 of an inch or so in... These can be covered in grease which hides them. They are either round or square rings. Silvers suggestion about the hook is good but a sharp finishing nail can do the trick as well. You will have to find the gap between the ends on the ring to fish it out.

Do you have both rings out?

Yep, I've got both retainer clips out. Your right though, I had to really search and clean the greese out to find the second one.

Nevermind you said yes...

It may be a matter of aggressively jiggling the rotor/hub assembly. Perhaps banging it with a piece of wood might help.

I know mine is a really Tight fit. I have to pull it just right or it seems to bind rather than slide.
