Want to put V10 in Crown Vic

I have been trolling the auctions and I am looking to pick-up a Crown Vic Cop Car. Now I want to put a V10 in for fun. My boys are getting to the driving age and I think it would be a great project to get them involved with and get their minds working.

So my question here is V10 related. I have no idea what versions there are avalible so I will be looking for help when I troll for the motors/trannys. It will be left stock till it is a proven driver, well maybe headers.

But I will want to add toys down the road, headers, blower/turbo's and what ever else we can do. How much power can the V10 make?

There really isn't much aftermarket for the V10, the 3v came from the factory with 362 ponies and 457 ft lbs of torque. Strong engine, but you may have a struggle getting the torqshift to work properly. The 2v with PI heads is a an exccelent power making motor. With tunes, headers, correct y pipe its very powerful. From my understanding they made superchargers for the 2v motors also.

Try to find the whole truck so you get the motor, trans and elec. harness all at once. Plus you would have all the linkage and such to swap over or modify.

If you do this please post on here your progress. I know this is for trucks but I would really like to see how this turns out.

Be prepared to modify the transmission tunnel in the car. The tunnel is just large enough for a 4R70W transmission that normally comes in the car. The TorqShift is A LOT larger.

not to mention how long and tall the V10 is...

to be honest it would be better/cheaper just to add a supercharger to the stock 4.6 thats in the crown already..

but GL if you decide to see if you can make a V10 work.

He said it bolted to existing motor mounts and length was not an issue as it is only one cylinder deeper in length on the front. I am also sure he said he turned the intake 180 degrees.



I would like to take it to the next level and put a 6 speed on it. I am told the V10 block is identical other than the 2 added cylinders, so a 6 speed should bolt up as well as any accessories on the front.



I would by a complete donor V10 truck so I can get every part I require. I have a buddy with one that runs great body the rusties have had a party with the body. So timing is good.

The 6.8 is not that much larger than a 4.6. The 4.6, 5.4, and 6.8 all share the same bore size and spacing. A 5.4/6.8's deck height is a little over an inch more than a 4.6s.

This gets my vote for coolest swap idea this week! Please post pics, because I for one would love to have a V10 powered car someday. Of course my fantasy build is a V10/Fox-bodied Mustang with a manual trans (T56?). I own an '88 GT and can tell you the engine bay is HUGE once you factor out all the crap needed for emmisions and A/C. Keep us posted if you go for it!

The 4R100 is quite a bit larger than the 4R70W, but a little smaller than the TorqShift.

There is a cutaway picture of a TorqShift in my avatar. I don't have comparison photos so that you can judge the difference. I also don't have transmissions to take photos.

I did a lot of work at Ford and was at the StThomas assembly quite a bit, where they made the Crown Vic's, Grand's and Town Cars. So this V10 Swap will work in any of these as they are all Panther's.

The tranny tunnel will have to be modified if I use the truck tranny. I have not a clue if I have to modify with a 6-speed for size, I will be cutting a shifter hole for sure.

I was at the Dearborn proving grounds a few years age, in the prototype garage for a project, a gearheads dream garage. One car was a prototype police interceptor with a V10. Yes I saw it and a few other cool toys.

This swap is possible, so what year motor would be best?
