my question, does anyone know what trans 3or4 speed toploader, or t5? what would be the easiest swop? via axle length mainly.
in 68 the 302 was not an option.
any info would be great

The 3spd was offered, so that would be "the easiest". A toploader 4spd isn't harder, just need to adjust the driveshaft length to fit the longer tailhousing.
The T5 was integeral bellhousing and needs a cable to actuate the clutch. Unless you buy a blowproof bellhousing that converts it(not cheap).
I converted three different bumps to 4spd(from auto and 3spd). It's a bolt in for the most part. Likey have to redrill the frame for crossmember when you slide it back(no biggie).
You'll need pedal assembly and Zbar/linkage. Plus the ball that screws into the side of the engine block for the Zbar. Are you running a late model 302 or pre 80's? The newer blocks do NOT have the hole in the side of the block for pivot ball, as they were all cable/hydraulic clutch by then.

T5s are not integral on sbf, later mod motor units are I think. I have one from an 89 Mustang in my rpu. If you have a bell housing and flywheel/clutch, there are a lot of options. Ford pickups used a variety of different 3 speeds with overdrive, one of which is a cast iron toploader and they can be had for around $100. Another was the SROD and then the aluminum BW toloader with the top shift. The Mazda pickup 5 speed is integral bell and juice clutch, easy to find but I dislike them due to the high ratio of revers. Another option ids the heavy duty ZF 5 speed from the 3/4 and one ton pickups. I'm running one on my 300 and love it.
I've never seen a 68 with a 302 but numberdummy says they came out that year and I believe him.

I'm not sure what that comment meant, 4 out of 5 of my vehicles have three pedals. What I was referring to is men who can't drive a stickshift. I was fully capable of doing so by the age of 6.
I did have a big strapping lad of 20 working for me and when I put him on closing he kept "forgetting" to put the wrecker in at night. After the forth or fifth night I really got after him and it was then he admitted he couldn't drive a stick. Not only couldn't but was unable to and every effort to teach him was an exercise in futility. That's the kind of sad situation I was referring to.
