Paint F-150 Fender myself or have it done?

Hello:
I am going to replace my dented front fender on my 2007 f-150.

I have a 2007 and am trying to decide if I should buy a primed fender, have someone paint it for me, this appears to cost about $150, for painting.

I am also debating painting it myself. I have never done this but have a compressor and paint gun. I just don't know where to get the F-150 auto paint.

So, can you tell me what you would recommend.

Also can you tell me where I can get ford paint for the fender, in the Dallas, Plano, frisco area in Texas?

Thanks in advance for you help
Kendall

You don't have to get Ford specific paint, the real issue is the paint code itself and a paint supply store. I can tell you that you will spend more than $150 in supplies to do it yourself. If you have someone do it, make sure it's a good paint match. Most painters don't like to panel paint due to a potential paint match issue.

A pro paint job is well worth the money. At 150 it's a steal. I charge about 300 bucks a panel for paint and materials. (Product and labor rates vary a lot cross country. And depending on the color there could be up to a dozen alternate formulas for the same code. That's hey shops like to blend the adjacent panels, but if you want it nice and a close match, it let the pros do it. If you want to doa project yourself Try on something you don't care about too much. Trust me, painting is harder than they make it look on tv.

Both statements are very true! Painting itself really isn't too hard in itself but all the work before the final color is applied makes or breaks the end result. Its a learned experience, the more you do the better you get---at least in theory.

Former body shop owner BTW.

Depending on location, some paint supply places won't sell to the general public. And if they do, they will sell only water-based stuff.

Ditto what Indy said, for the price.
