I have 88 EB Bronco 2.Been in storage for a while.Bought from original owner in S.C.Paint is original, never on salt,no rust, good interior. But 2.9 has a cracked head.Would it be worth it to rebuild 2.9 for originality or would the 4.0 upgrade be the better route? Any feedback will help.

I have an 88 BII EB. I kept and rebuilt my 2.9 and it is still going. I bought it in 2004 to last a couple or three years. Sorry you hadn't got a response any sooner.

One tip I can give you for the 2.9, get a spare ignition module, removal tool and a little tube of heat sink compound from Radio Shack. I got my spare on Ebay. You can shop around for a good price now as opposed to getting stuck when you need one. You may need one tomorrow, or 5 years from now, but sooner or later...
