Crate engine or rebuild?
1989 2.9 4x4 xlt auto. I need either to rebuild my engine or buy a crate engine what is a good price range for both options? And if you suggest putting in a 4.0 list what extra parts I will have to buy to make it work in this year model,Thanks

Your in luck, the 4.0 is plug and play in an 89. All you need is an early OBD I 4.0 and it's computer, the harness should work. With the 88 and down it gets a little more involving, but 89 and up were the golden years for a 4.0 swap.

Yes you are right. But I have so much invested so far that I cannot scrap it. New trans ,radiator,ac (total repair) ,power steering pump,intake manifold gasket,springs all around,air shocks, rhino lining bed liner, and a host of other ankle biting stuff. So I have to fix it. I am going to have the bottom end done and go from there. The truck does not use oil or leak, all is well except oil pressure and the ticking. So I will hope this will fix for the time being. If I had the coins I would do the 4.0 swap. but that is not an option right now. Thanks
