Snorkel recommendation for 6.9?
Hey all,
Have any of you put a snorkel on your diesel truck? If so,
I'd like to hear about it as I'm thinking of putting one on mine.
And for that matter, what about the manual stating that you must drain the diff oil and replace it after going thru water that is higher than the axle vent.
Couldn't you just plug the vent prior to fording a stream and then open it afterwards?
Not like you would be charging through at a high speed. Slow and steady wins the race.
Cheers,
Tim

problem is that the hubs love to pull water in if they are warm to hot.
never cap off you axle, you'd be surprised at what can happen with a little temperature change.
i would run the axle vents into the cabin or somewhere you can keep an eye on them.
your still going to have to watch the front hubs as there is no real vent on them.
don't forget about your transmission and transfer case as well!
i really wouldn't want to take the intake manifold of these trucks under water unless i had a much better air filter box and connections up to the snorkel. it'll take a good splash, but she will leak if submerged, and that's game over.
