Congrats on tackling this yourself. Where did you find instructions? I've never tried to rebuild a transmission but everyone makes it seems like its really difficult

How did you know where to set the clearances for the clutch packs? And how did you set the end play? There are selective washers to get these right.

Mark Kovalsky,
What's your feelings on tackling a transmission in that manner? Do you
think after he has 10K on it that it can be called success?
I don't have any fear on doing my own BUT I will get the instructions and
the tools that I need to do the job. And after having said that I may just take
it to my local guy that I trust and have him do it anyway if and when
it is needed. However I may pick up a 2nd one to play with. If I did that
what could be done to upgrade it and bulletproof?

I don't know of anyone that has built a transmission like that before. I don't know if 10k is long enough to declare this a success unless 10k is all you expect out of a transmission.

I always wondered if I could do one of these by myself. They want big money to rebuild them up here. Not bashing Mark or anybody, but as soon as the trannys started going electronic, the prices went through the roof. Had a trans shop quote me 2500 bucks for an A4LD many years back. When I said why so much he said "It's electronic" I said it has 2 wires for the converter clutch! He said it's still electronic. Did it myself for a few hundred bucks.
036.0, what did it cost you? Does anybody know if there's a manual to be had? I've built a few transmissions, mostly C6's, but I wouldn't be afraid to try one if I had some instructions.

You can get a manual for almost any trans at www.atsg.com.

It's great to do it yourself. It's even better to do it right. A few bucks invested in a manual might have saved you from doing it again pretty soon. Who knows, you might be lucky and have everything right. It could happen.
