Trying to determine the year of this F1

It is the 1948-1950 type F1. But lack of column shift makes me believe it is a '48 or '49 as I was told the column shift appeared in 1950. It was found with no engine or transmission, no license plates or title. Just an old truck from a farm.
The frame number is *C431094*.
The tag on the firewall is stamped 98RO*C431094*RIC.
The firewall itself is stamped RHFAT707246.
I hope there is someone here smart enough to help this newbie out.

It seems awkward, but whenever you "insert a picture" to one of these threads, the forum is looking for the picture somewhere on the web (which is always available) rather than from somewhere on your hard drive (which isn't always available).

Go to Image hosting, free photo sharing & video sharing at Photobucket and sign up for a free account. Then create an album for your truck. Upload any pics you want to post on FTE to that album. Have this album open on your computer when you want to post pics on FTE.

While you're making a post on FTE, select the pic you want to post from your Photobucket album. When the large version of the pic is open, right mouse click on it and select "View Image Info". The image info will be highlighted and will look something like this:
http://i285.photobucket.com/albums/l...ghtsafter1.jpg

Copy that highlighted info (right click / copy).

When you have the spot in your post where you want the pic to be placed, select the "Insert Image" icon at the top of the post (looks like a mountain) and paste (right click / paste) the image info you copied in the highlighted box (just shows "http://" when it opens).

Your pic will be placed in the post.

Hope that helps.

You do have some interesting numbers that don't exactly follow the normal form. But I think it's safe to say you do have a 1950 F1 originally equipped with the 239 V8, built in Richmond CA. The column shifter didn't appear until late in the 1950 model run, and then only with the light duty 3 speed trans. The HD 3 speed and 4 speeds still had the floor shift.

51Panelman along with some others are real experts in this area, i suspect they will be along shortly, the only thing I have to offer is early 50 came with a steel over wood bed and late 50s came with the wood bed. Nice truck!

It looks like it still has the small back window so I'm betting mid 1950 or earlier

Is this the same truck that "was found with no engine or transmission, no license plates or title. Just an old truck from a farm"? Tell us what you've done to the truck since then.

Look at the back of the cab. If it has the three support ribs it is NOT a 48. 48s were smooth. Look at the bugs on the glass there will be two small letters and for example it said "DI" It would be a 49 (count the letters in alphabetical order) You could take the speedometer out and try to find a stamped date. Also if it it has a stock heater on the back it will have the date in yellow ink. If it has a dana 44 then it will be a late 50.

I haven't done anything. The previous owner upgraded a 5.0 and four gear tranny into it. Then primered it and added some rims.

If I knew what a Dana 44 looked like that would be fine.

This post was also made on the Ford Barn. mtflat decoded it as a late 50.

Doc, this truck was for sale on CL in Sacramento, CA. A friend of mine thought about buying it, but never went to check it out. The PO advertised it for something like $7500, but over the phone told my friend that he'll take $6k. From what I remember, it has a newer engine and transmission. I believe that it was also the PO's grandfather's truck.
