3.55 to 4.10 gears?
#16
Like they said, you'd be better off finding an entire axle with a 4.10LS if that's what you're going to use, but you should probably go to 4.56. I have now had experience with 3.55LS, 4.10LS, and 4.56LS in fords with 35" tires and 351w motors, all stock except for "little" stuff like exhaust. And the 3.55 makes it a gutless truck like you wouldn't believe. The 4.10 is ok, but it's not that great, and 4.56 is a world of difference. I was actually pleasantly surprised with the performance of it and I'm putting 4.56s in my truck instead of 4.10s now. But if you do a ton of highway driving, 4.10 will probably get you slightly better mpgs.

Yeah I have 3.55s now, and truthfully, I hate it. It is absolutely gutless. I had 4.10s originally and I did a straight axle swap and swapped to 3.55 because I had a set for a sterling and the D44 had that in it already so it was the cheapest way to go. But with 4.10s and 35" tires, it felt alright. It was definitely a lot meaner and had more torque. I cant even break the tires loose on pavement with 3.55s without snuffing the motor off. That's how gutless it is if that tells you anything. My buddy has 4.56s in his truck and it feels like it has all kinds of usable power that mine doesn't have. And we have identical drivetrains, tires, and motors (besides the gear ratio in the diff). If you put in 4.10s it will feel pretty normal. Like having 3.55s and stock sized tires. But with 4.56s it will have that extra boost in torque that I really liked.

What size rear end does the F-150 have? I went to the ringpinion.com website and its asking me which size differential the 2012 F+150 has. Gives me 3 options:
10.5"
8.8"
9.75"
I'm looking into purchasing a 2012 F-150 4x4 with the Ecoboost engine. Unsure of which trim, but I really want the FX4. Opting for the E-Locker 4.10 as I want to lift it 6" with 35" tires.

That's my question. If you guys are interested in an interesting story, you can read on from here, if not, then no need to.
Let me explain my story.
I use to have a Nissan Titan with a 7" lift and 35" Kuhmo tires, but 8 months after I bought it new, a Camaro swerved into my lane going 70mph and I rolled the truck 8 times and I was ejected 40 feet into a tree. I had just taken my seat belt off to take my wallet out of my back pocket of my slacks coming home from work. I only had it off for 10 seconds and was about to put it back on after I got out of traffic. That was January 9th, 2007.
I purchased a brand new 2008 GMC Sierra SLE2 Texas Edition fully loaded, customized it with painting the chrome front and rear bumper and the chrome trim around the grill black to match as seen in my avatar. Spintech 6000 Prostreet Dual Exhaust. I was dumb when I bought the truck. I lived in Dallas at the time so I got a 2wd because I wanted the truck to be sportier. After I bought the truck, I missed having a lifted truck. So I'll never get a 2WD truck again.
So a month ago, I was driving to Oklahoma City on the highway and a lady pulled out 30 yards infront of me, while I had the cruise control set at 68mph, into my lane. I swerved to miss her, but lost control, skidded across 4 lanes of traffic (2 lanes each way) and headed for the ditch and bounced off a tree and rolled the Sierra 4 times.
Talk about terrible luck. Last time I will ever sacrifice my own truck to save someone's life. EMT's and Police told me that if I would have rear ended that lady, I would have killed her. She was driving an early 2000's white Ford Taurus against my 5500 pound crew cab truck at 65mph. I didnt even have a chance to hit the brakes. The lady fled the scene. My insurance is picking up the tab. Owed $15k on it and its worth $25k, but the insurance company offered me $23,800. I declined their offer. They need to be close to $25k. Plus I had $1500 in customization coverage and I easily had well over $1500 in customization just in painting the bumpers and grill trim along with a custom grill. That's not even considering my car stereo equipment What sucks is I just put 4 new 20" tires that ran me $885 that were on sale, just changed my spark plugs and wires along with doing an oil and filter change, plus before I left my parents' house, I had just put $93 in gas in the truck at 25.25 gallons of gas. Instead of me getting the gas out of the truck, Nationwide is adding $93 to my offer plus $1500 in customization I had done. I was able to pull out all of my stereo equipment out, which is well into the $5500 price range.
So now I'm after a 4x4. Looking into the Tundra, maybe another Titan (although the gas mileage is terrible, still even after 8 years unchanged), 2007+ NNBS Yukon or Tahoe Z71
Sorry to hijack your thread OP, but it looks like your question has been answered. Sorry for the long post guys.

You really should've created a new thread in the right forum. But I really didn't see a question...these vintage half ton trucks have 8.8 rear ends. Idk what the 2012 has. The new truck forum would know...but you really have some terrible luck. Lol. Good to hear that you lived through all of that though. So I guess your luck isn't all bad

I didn't create a new thread, because the question I asked, was pertaining to the topic. My question was what size rear end does the 2012 have because I went to the website that was published to see about 4.56 gears and it gave me 3 options of sizes of rear ends. So all in all, the question I had pertains to the original question from the OP and him swapping for 4.56 gears. He will need to know what size rear end he has, which is the same thing I want to know since we want to do the same thing to the F-150; 6" Lift and 35" tires.

I'm not sure on the size of the 2012 rear, but the 8.8 id what this vintage has. And the 10.5 is a sterling rear end for HD trucks so I doubt that's what it is.
Jeez. But here you are to tell the tale. Its too bad that the woman you saved didn't stop though, or not pull out in front of you in the first place.
