Questions about coils

So I am replacing the coil packs and on my 2000 Excursion... my question is has anybody have experience or input on these different coil packs?

10 PCS FORD IGNITION COIL V8 4.6L 5.4L V10 6.8L DG508 | eBay

10 Ignition Coil pack 00 01 02 03 04 05 Excursion V10 6.8L | eBay

Is one worth double the price?

Mixed reviews on the eBay coil packs. More bad than good I have seen, but admittedly people don't complain about things that work.

Any particular reason you want to change them all?

Since its been parked when I started it up its missing so was gonna just do plugs and coil packs seeing as they seem to be the leading cause of this issue.

Doesn't sound like a coil. Just keep an extra one on hand, you might be going backwards by replacing all of them. Don't just throw money at problems and hope they go away.

First thing check to see if it has any codes stored. If you don't have a reader, most parts stores will read it for you for free. A bad coil will usually give you a misfire code even though the light doesn't come on.

Because you are talking about ebay coils which can be inferior to stock ones, so why replace good ones with inferior ones? Just keep an extra one handy if you are worried about it. My coils all have 160k miles on them.

Fixed it for ya, Brent!

To the OP, why spend money if you're not sure if it will solve the problem, or even if that IS the problem?

Also, some guys have reported problem with the COP boots, not the COP's themselves. They replaced one or two and the problem went away.

So what brand are the OEM coils? I am sure they can be sourced for less than the stealer offers them? I am willing to buy them and replace them all as I do not want to mess with it but once.

Wow, I wish I had your money!

Ford Motorcraft coil on plugs are the OEM coils.

Tousley Ford Parts is a supporting vendor here at FTE. Tousley Ford Parts Depot Just make sure you mention FTE to get the discount.

Kinda funny as those are more expensive then the coils used on my BMW M3.... I am sure they are not made by Ford, and marketed under a different brand as well...

As is a lot of OEM stuff. That's not abnormal.

I never claimed Ford made them, you just asked what brand the OEM coils are. They're Motorcraft brand.

Years of trying aftermarket COP's by the Gen 2 Lightning crowd has proven time and time again the best coils are the OEM coils.

Weapon X is the only coil that has proven to be as good as OEM's, when it comes to the Lightning.

I'm still running the stock OEM coils on my 2005 Excursion that has 170000 miles on it now, on the other hand we've replaced 3 on our 2001 5.4 Supercrew that has 184000 miles. I agree, check to see if you have codes before you spend the money (and aggravation) replacing coils and plugs.
