Water temp?

I just bought an SG 2 yesterday and while checking my temps seems like the water temp never goes above 184 degrees, but the oil temp will reach 202 degrees. That is driving 70 on the hwy with no load. I did replace the oil cooler about 25k miles ago but my hg's were blown and I guess that could have caused the new oil cooler to go bad? What temps are yall running?

Sounds like you need to replace your thermostat. You should be running around 193+ unless the ambient is really cool.

Your thermostat is getting weak , you should be at 190 -195 thats when they start to open . Install new thermostat and you will be good .

Maybe it will but it might not but you need a thermostat . Don't totally freak over your delta . Mine is always 8 to 10 and if i tow or run the sh-t out of it bigger . And have a 2 year old cooler .

You can't properly determine the delta unless you're using the right operating parameters (such as a properly operating thermostat).

Before you even start the truck, check the oil/coolant temps..... they should be the same. This is after a 12-24 hour shutdown. If they aren't the same, one of the 2 senders are bad...as they are the same senders, swap 'em and then see what it does.

Ok good idea I will check in the morning.

On the way home ECT was 184 degrees, EOT was 204 degrees.

ect is 10 to 20 degrees too cool. I normally run around 198 to 204 empty or towing. Remember you have no spark plugs. Proper temp. range for the new gen. diesels is critical for performance, mileage and emissions.

All good advise. May be a $35 fix. Make sure you drain about 2.5 gallons of coolant before taking off hoses AND buy 2 stainless screw type hose clamps one for about a 1 inch hose and 1 for a 2 inch hose. The original spring clamps may not clamp properly wben you put them back on. To make them work they have to be back in the EXACT same spot. Even then, they may leak.

The screw type clamps will be a welcome fix if you can't get the originals seated.

Eric

PS ask me how I know!!

Yeah I dealt with the original clamps leaking coolant about a year ago, they are replaced with the better style hose clamps now.
