10.25 gears interchangeable?
I have an '88 F350 with 10.25 rear axle and D60 kingpin front axle. 3.55 gears. I have 35" tires and a ZF5 transmission so I would like to get 4.10 gears. It's pretty sluggish with 3.55's, although it's good at highway speeds.
My question is this:
Can I swap in 4.10 gears from a '93 F350 with D60 front and 10.25 rear? I know I probably have the 10.25 1st gen and the 93 has 2nd gen. Are the parts interchangeable? What about the front D60's, are they the same?
Thanks

Front should be no problem, I'm pretty sure the middle stayed the same, just went from kingpins to balljoints and even the hubs should be the same anyways.
In the rear, I think there were some differences with the pinion design, not entirely sure what that entailed... You might need to swap the driveline yoke to match the pinion. And there may be a difference in spacers or pinion bearings. The ring should be fine though.
Hopefully someone more knowledgeable chimes in.

The original owner of my '94 F350 did this (swapped in 4.10's). It didn't have enough power when pulling. In my opinion, I would have rather improved the engine performance so that the 3.55's didn't hinder the performance and keep the nice highway RPM. What I want to do with it now is work back the other way and improve the engine performance and someday go back to taller gears so that I can run down the highway at an economic RPM. I don't like the 4.10's. That's me though.
