Transfer case rear output seal

Hey folks, i replaced my 1356's rear output seal yesterday and didn't notice how the seal was oriented when i removed the old one. What i mean is, the new seal has a hole in the rubber. i wasn't sure if it was a vent hole meant to be installed upwards, or a drain hole meant to be installed downwards. I didn't want my new seal to leak so I oriented the hole upwards. If it needs a hole in the bottom, I can heat up a nail and poke a new one if I have to. My handy Chiltons (Sarcasm) manual doesn't address this.

I'll dig out my 1994 shop manuals tomorrow, and see if they mention it at all.

I looked in the 1356 manual shift and 1356 electrically-operated shift book areas, all it says is "insert seal with the proper tool". No mention of any specific positioning of it.
I would have installed it the way you did.
