Trouble Codes and Check Engine Light 96 f150
I have a 96 single cab short bed automatic 5.0 efi. throwing codes po174 and po171. The truck runs like a stallion now hesitation or any problems. I drag race fairly often "using 1&2 on the column with no OD". And i've hauled a bedrooms worth of furniture with overdrive on and thats tripped the Cel before. It will go away if i reset the computer, but i just wondered if it was coming on simply because I was straining the engine? I had a 94 explorer where the CEL would come on while I'd tow then go away.

Check the fuel pressure with a gauge.
Does it idle un normally high? if so check for vac leak/s.
Replace the fuel filter if its age is unknown.
Hauling a bedrooms worth of furniture ain't nothing and drag racing with a heavy truck such as these and with a little motor you have, while accomplishes not much more then waste of fuel? no that won't trigger a problem in the engine no not such as you suggest here.
Any number of problem with the system as a whole can and will trigger the light. Drag racing promotes premature wear but otherwise is fairly harmless, you'll know one day when you go to far.
Yours is "system lean", both banks.
