Does it look like the odometer has rolled over?

I was just wondering if my truck has 53900 miles or 153900 miles. Does it look like it rolled over?

No way to tell it could have three times that on it. I have a couple of vehicals i have watched roll over three times and one is a 97 model. At least on the 97 it has all of the miles showing on the odometer ,the older ones just role over and become new vehicals again,L.O.L.

Someone told me that the numbers are crooked after they roll over. Is that not true?

The way the "5" droops lower than the rest seems suspect to me...

The numbers get crooked when someone goes in there and rolls the numbers back...

As Jim said, no real way to know. Does it have a lot of wear and tear on it? Of course, I once had a truck that the original owner swore only had 85,000 miles on it, but it looked like a lot more than that due to sitting. On later model trucks, a CarFax report helps, but on the older ones, it is a lot harder to know for sure. Also, up here where I am from, 30,000 miles is like 150,000 to 200,000 due to conditions and the extreme cold (depending on if anyone did maintenance on them also, which often doesn't happen out here in rural Alaska).

I'll agree with that ^^^^^^^

You can sort of tell by the wear on the steering wheel, seat, seat belt, scuff plates, dash pad etc.

A friend of mine that used to sell used cars told me a dead give-away to high miles is the brake pedal pad. If somebody claims low miles, but the pedal pad shows lots of wear, they're probably lying. Of course, pedal pads can be replaced, too.

Low miles and high wear on the brake pedal pad can show mostly city driving versus highway miles.

Never looked at the brake pedal to close, but the seats tore up on the drivers side so its probably more like 153900

Thanks everyone

I would take highway over city miles.

But I would take city miles over highway + towing miles.

Either way... I would choose whichever had a Diesel

the gearing plays a big factor too,i just rolled over80000 but w/ the 4.11 gears im spinning 3000rpm at 60mph. putting alot more wear on the motor than 80000 miles w/ say 3.50 gearing. if standard tranny that will give away alot too, feels tight,no grinding, good indications. look around, there are tells everywhere

For a '78 you should assume 300,000 miles. An average of 10,000 miles per yr & you have a 34 yr old truck.

It sat for 5 years so that takes a couple miles off
