how many miles on your 460?

I have 175k on my 1995 460 in my 95 f250. Engine still runs very good. How many miles do you guys have on yours?

I know a lot depends on maintenance and how the engines are used, but what is a ball park estimate on when I will have to do a rebuild?

Well we are rebuilding a whole entire 89 F350 460 with 350,000ish miles but it wasn't taken care the last few years.

Guess I'm the low mileage one here: 136,000 miles. Oil analysis is starting to show quite a bit of bearing wear, but the motor still runs great.

1990 460 256,000 having intermittent problems. Coughing missing stalling but only occasionally. Changed out fuel filter, coil, distributer, ignition module, fuel pump relays, fuel pressure regulator. Mechanics stumped. Oh yeah dual tanks so I don't think It's fuel pumps.

Fairly common topic. Thanks though for not asking about the gas mileage of a 460. I have pushed a couple of 460 powered trucks to around 300,000 miles. They were used up at that point and junked. My current ride has just north of 140,000 and is the best Ford pickup I have ever owned. The 460 with the highest mileage I have ever seen personally, belonged to my friend Mark. 1986 F350, regular cab, and ordered with all the options possible. He was a very busy plumber and ran it to over 500,00 miles. It had a few transmissions along the way and the heads had been rebuilt but it was still running the original block. It was burning a quart of oil daily when he sold it to an employee.
I know the new owner was showing it a lot of love, and then he moved out of state and that was the last time I saw it. What a truck. The 460 is an outdated old dinosaur, but rock solid reliable in most cases with good maintenance.

Just rolled over 80,000.
The body will rot away from West Virginia & Ohio road salt
way before I'll need to replace the motor.

WOW I must have the "0ld" dog on the block. I have a 68 f250 with a 68 460 with 5000 on it's rebuild. I can't find out what the motor came out of(could not option it in 68) but I know it was a Murcury of some type. ( block serial 8j116049) it has had eletronic ingnition put on it. Runs like a new baby.

Mine: 180,000
Dads: 205,000
Both still running very strong with no problems. My high school shop teacher made his 260,000 and his head gaskets started to go out. He took the 460 out and put in a 4 cylinder detroit back in it.

I love my old 96 F-250 with the 460/5spd. But gas is not likely to ever be much below $3/gal again. The 04 F-350 6.0PSD/6spd. I recently bought gets 21+ mpg. Diesel fuel is about 20% more than gas, but the truck gets 100% better mpg. A co-worker pulls a 34' camper with a 6.0 and he still gets 15mpg while towing!!
